Jensen 541
1955 - 1963
production number: 546
The Jensen 541 was the first Jensen model to be made with a fiberglass body on a steel chassis. The 541, like its predecessor, was powered by the same six-cylinder Austin 4.0 litre, with three carburetors and a four-speed manual transmission. The 541 was a compact sports car, with independent front suspension, a rigid rear axle and a top speed of 195 km/h, which was high for that time.
Soon Jensen came with disc brakes all round (541 DeLuxe), a first in a British four-seater. A Laycock overdrive was available as an option and later became standard. The 541R had modified bodywork. The later 541S, had a wider body and standard Rolls Royce automatic gearbox. 22 manual transmissions were also produced.
Some 541S’s were fitted with a V8 engine. As far as is known, only one 541R and one 541S left-hand drive were built.
