In the 1970s, Jensen Motors Ltd. facing a major financial problem. Due to the loss of work for Austin-Healey, Volvo P1800 and Sunbeam Tiger, a new sports car was urgently needed to fill the gap.
In collaboration with Donald Healey and the American importer Kjell Qvale, the Jensen-Healey was urgently developed and put into production in 1972. In August 1973, the second version (MK II) was “marketed”.
Both the MK I and MK II were powered by a Lotus 2.0 litre, 16 valve engine with double overhead camshafts and twin Dell’Orto or Stromberg carburetors. In the beginning with a manual 4 speed gearbox, later in 1975 with a Getrag 5 speed gearbox.
